Position Title: Director of OutLoud!
Reports To: Artistic Director
Employment Type: Part-time, Contract (September–June)
Compensation: Stipend $8,000, additional compensation for up to three paid community engagement performances over the required 5 each season.

About TCGMC:
Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus (TCGMC) is a nonprofit arts organization with 45 years of musical excellence and LGBTQ+ advocacy in Minnesota.

Position Summary:
The Director of OutLoud! leads OutLoud!, a pop-music outreach ensemble of TCGMC. Responsibilities include musical direction, repertoire planning, and outreach coordination. This role includes the opportunity to collaborate with the full chorus and may substitute for the Artistic Director, if available, at a rate of $150 per occurrence.

Key Responsibilities:

●      Lead weekly rehearsals for OutLoud! (schedule set with ensemble and Artistic Director) currently 32 Monday evenings 7:00-9:00 pm.

●      Plan and submit a seasonal rehearsal calendar by September 1

●      Audition and select ensemble members as needed

●      Select repertoire in collaboration with Artistic Director and Production Manager by established deadlines for Holiday, Spring and Pride Concerts in addition to community outreach and small ensemble annual concert

●      Upload music and rehearsal materials to ChorusConnection

●      Attend monthly staff and production meetings

●      Coordinate licensing for arrangements and recordings

●      Review and submit concert program information

●      Prepare and maintain a 15–20-minute outreach set

●      Organize and direct a minimum of 5 outreach performances annually

●      Communicate professionally with outreach partners and maintain alignment with TCGMC calendar

Desired Qualifications:

●      Musical Leadership Experience: Proven experience directing vocal ensembles, including rehearsal planning, conducting, and performance preparation.

●      Vocal and Choral Expertise: Strong knowledge of vocal techniques, choral arranging, and ensemble performance, with an emphasis on diverse musical styles.

●      Genuine enthusiasm for pop music: Excitement for creative integration of pop-music into choral performance, with an appreciation for its role in engaging diverse audiences and enriching the chorus’s artistic vision.

●      Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work closely and respectfully with artistic staff, singers, and community partners.

●      Organizational Skills: Capable of managing schedules, submitting materials on time, and preparing ensembles for performances and outreach events.

●      Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with digital tools for music distribution (e.g., ChorusConnection or similar platforms) and basic audio resources for rehearsal preparation.

●      Commitment to Inclusion: Understanding of and sensitivity to LGBTQ+ communities and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the arts.

●      Flexibility and Availability: Willingness to attend rehearsals, meetings, and events as scheduled—including evening and weekend commitments.

●      Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to timely, respectful, and inclusive engagement with chorus members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

●      Licensing Awareness (Preferred): Familiarity with music licensing for performance and video distribution is a plus.
